Diversity Statement
Genesis 1:27
God created mankind in his image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraph 364
The human body shares in the dignity of the “image of God”: it is a human body precisely because it is animated by a spiritual soul, and it is the whole human person that is intended to become, in the body of Christ, a temple of the Spirit.
St. Catherine of Siena Academy affirms the beauty of diversity in education. Every child is made in God’s image and is given unique gifts and talents. In educating the whole child, we strive to celebrate this individuality and see it as enriching to our academy’s environment. No child is an accident. Every child is loved by God.
Our curriculum reflects our dedication to educating children not in what to think, but how to think. We seek to introduce a wide variety of information to our young scholars, in age-appropriate ways. Examples of this can be seen in our use of classical literature and our teaching of history. We accept that in this post-Eden world, there are problematic figures throughout history. People have treated others in ways inconsistent with their God-given dignity. Sometimes entire cultures have been disrespected. Rather than avoid these tough realities, we face them as teaching opportunities designed to reaffirm that every human being is made in God’s image and likeness.
